Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Customers rave about the price-to-quality ratio at Highgate Fisheries. The fish and chips, with crisp, flaky haddock, are praised for their excellent batter—not soggy, just perfectly cooked.

The chips receive high marks for being golden and fluffy and the fish cake butty has turned into a local sensation, making its way into many hearts (and stomachs). The friendly service keeps patrons coming back. People often mention the polite staff, which adds to the overall pleasant dining experience.

Many regulars appreciate the fast service, allowing you to grab a meal without a long wait. And who could forget the 'scraps'? These crispy leftover bits of batter are a delightful treat that many find irresistible.

Most Disliked

Some customers note that the door frame can be low—so watch your head when entering! While it adds to the character, it has led to a few bumps among taller visitors.

As the shop is quite popular, especially during peak hours, service may slow down during exceptionally busy times such as Thursday dinner service. Some have expressed frustration at the wait, but the experience often redeems itself with the quality of food.

Those who prefer more extravagant sides might find the options here a bit limited, as the focus is predominantly on the fish and chips. Still, the core offerings rarely disappoint.

Called in just for a tray of chips and gravy this afternoon and I was so impressed. The chips were perfectly cooked and the lovely lady who served me was incredibly polite. I've not been in for a while but it didn't disappoint. It is spotlessly clean and a lovely traditional fish and chip shop. Mind your head on the low door frame as you enter!
